Advent Day 6 - A Drama for Advent

Shell Club was a joint Methodist and Anglican club for children aged 8 – 12. It ran from 1995 to 2015.
This drama was performed by Shell Club at one of the joint Sunday services that were held before the formal unity of the 2 churches.
Drama adapted  from The King is Coming by Colin Mengell from the book Drama for all the family.

Dave and a group of friends together.  Another friend Kathy enters.

Kathy  Dave!  Dave!
Dave:  What is it Kathy?
Kathy:  The King is coming…. he’s coming to town!
Dave:  What here?
Kathy:  Yes, I’ve just heard. He’s coming on the 25th.
Dave:  That’s great. We’ll have to hold a celebration.
Kathy:  A huge banquet.
Dave:  A disco with loads of flashing lights.
Kathy:  A party with games, balloons….
Dave:  There’s so much to prepare. We need to decorate with streamers, golden hanging stars, glittering globes, bells and tinsel…..
Kathy:  Right, lets start preparing. You organise the games and the food and I’ll get working on the decorations and disco.
A couple of hours later
Dave: That looks great.  This is going to be terrific with all these decorations. I feel in a party mood already.
Kathy arrives with the party food.
Kathy: Hey! This looks brilliant! I’ve got some nuts and crisps we can pass round. Have one.
Kathy hands round the crisps and nuts to others
Dave:   Don’t give out too many or we won’t have any left for the celebration.
Kathy:  I think we’ve already started.  Let’s put some music on and play some games.
A short time later
Dave:  That was great fun. This is going to be the best celebration ever. Celebrating…Celebrating? What are we celebrating?
Kathy:  You know.
Dave:  No.
Kathy:  Well it’s er…..do you know in all this excitement I’ve forgotten.
Dave:  But you were the one who came rushing in getting us all preparing the celebrations.
Kathy:  I know that. We were preparing for……..can’t you remember anything I said.
Dave:  Sure, there was a date.
Kathy:   What date?  The 1st or was it the 14th?  No. I think it was in the twenties.
Dave:  I remember. The 25th!
Kathy:  That was it. The 25th. And…on.. the …25th…the King is coming to town!
Dave:  The King is coming.  That was it.
Kathy:  No fancy that. What a thing to forget.
Dave:  It was all these exciting preparations.
Kathy:  In this exciting time of Advent…. Don’t forget who you are preparing for.

LUKE 3:4-6

As it is written, in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet

A voice of one calling in the wilderness,
Prepare the way of the Lord,

      Make straight paths for him,
Every valley shall be filled in,

Every mountain and hill made low
The crooked roads shall become straight,

The rough ways smooth,
And all people will see God’s salvation.
