Church at Home

The leadership team met on Zoom on New Year's Eve to discuss the worsening local situation regarding COVID-19 cases and the strain on the NHS.  The decision was taken to suspend live worship in the church during January and revert to holding on Zoom.

The number of cases continues to rise despite households having to avoid mixing. Epsom and St Helier hospitals now have more COVID-19 cases than in the spring, secondary school opening has been delayed and primary schools in the adjoining Sutton Borough are also not opening.  In this situation it felt like we were not making a decision, but rather following common sense to suspend live services for the month of January. This will include Sunday, Messy Church and Thursday services. To risk spreading infection when we can meet by zoom seems irresponsible and dangerous.

I know some people will be very disappointed by this news but please bear with us and pray for each other, especially those who will feel the mental strain of this.

A MESSAGE FROM Rev Des Williamson

Do pray for our nation and indeed the world, but also for your neighbour, and if you are able to offer them help then don't be shy.

If you are self-isolating for health reasons and you need help, call a friend or neighbour and ask them or if you are really stuck contact me (01737 353011) or email help@merlandrisechurch.org.uk. Be wary of people you don't know asking for your money or bank cards and offering to do shopping for you - some people have been taken in by such scams.
